How a psychologist can help
Psychologists are trained in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a variety of mental health disorders. All psychologists have at least 6 years of education, training, and supervision before registration is possible. All psychologists are required to be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. They also abide by strict standards relating to professional conduct, responsibility, confidentiality and continuing professional development.

What to expect
Standard consultations are a maximum of 55 minutes. Initial consulttaions are usually slightly longer. During the first session we will explore your current difficulties and how they are affecting you. We will also explore the history of the problem to determine how it developed. However, the overall nature of the therapy is focused on the present and the aim is to assist you to develop strategies to cope better. It is essential that you take an active role in your therapy, which may include completing tasks between sessions.
How many sessions will it take?
The number of sessions required varies from person to person. Some people will benefit from six sessions or less, whereas others will require more.
